2021-22 Richmond Scholars Leadership Council

Richmond Scholars Leadership Council

October 1, 2021

Welcome to the 2021-22 Richmond Scholars Leadership Council (RSLC)!

The RSLC consists of elected representatives from different scholar classes. Together, they coordinate class activities and help plan community programming throughout the year. The new representatives shared why they decided to run for leadership council, and what they're looking forward to in the year ahead.

Katarina Acosta, '22
Middleburg, Virginia

I have really enjoyed my past experiences on Leadership Council as we worked together across cohorts to create fun experiences for fellow scholars! It is a great way to gain leadership skills and get to know other scholars.

I hope to make some great memories with other senior scholars on our upcoming trip to Chicago and the rest of the year. As a member of Leadership Council, I am looking forward to planning some events that incorporate all of the cohorts. These events are a wonderful way to promote community among Scholars, and the classes can learn so much from each other!

Participating in Leadership Council last year was a great way to connect with my fellow scholars, and I look forward to representing my cohort again this year. Now that we're in the lime stage, I'm excited to plan in-person events both on and off-campus that will give scholars the opportunity to get to know one another outside of the classroom.

I decided to run for the leadership council because last year I had so much fun even though we had hardships due to COVID-19! It was amazing to work with amazing ideas for the best events possible. This year, I'm looking forward to the Scholars Prom, and maybe some trips as a scholar group.

The leadership council is an opportunity to bring the scholars across all cohorts together and create meaningful connections while also having fun. I am very excited to organize all sorts of events from academic to game nights, especially the Scholar Prom.

Wilmette, Illinois

I decided to run for leadership council because I’ve always envisioned a tight-knit scholars community before I even arrived on campus. In my time here so far, I’ve already been able to feel the the support from this group and I’m so grateful for it. I want to give back to this community and actively cultivate its growth. I’m most looking forward to the events that we’ll get to plan and hold. I’ve been thinking about a community-based service project we can all do together, and I think that that will be both very meaningful and fun.

Elena Durazo, '25
Tucson, Arizona

I decided to run for leadership council because the first-year scholar community was a huge help in my adjustment to campus and I am so grateful for the genuine connections I've already made in my short time here. I wanted to give back and be able to organize events and hangouts to continue forging bonds in our community.

I am most looking forward to continuing to get to know my fellow first-years and the other scholar cohorts! Everyone in this program has obviously worked very hard to get to where they are and had a lot of different experiences so I am excited to learn what I can from everyone and make some lifelong friends.

Tolya Evdokimov, '25
Moscow, Russia

I joined leadership council because I want to create a welcoming environment for all scholars to get to know each other and take a break from a fast-paced college life. I ran because I believe that together we can achieve this by creating an engaging programming for the whole scholar community.

I am looking forward to connecting with scholars from various classes, attending/creating as much events a possible, and organizing at least one scholars movie night!
