Richmond Scholars Leadership Council

September 26, 2022

The Richmond Scholars Leadership Council consists of elected representatives from different scholar classes. Council members create social programming, lead community-building efforts, and advise staff on issues pertaining to the Richmond Scholars. Welcome to the 2022-23 Leadership Council!

Katie Baker, '24
Chagrin Falls, Ohio

I am so excited to rejoin Richmond Scholars Leadership Council this year, and I can't wait to get to know all of the scholars better and use their input to plan some amazing activities! In addition to bringing back popular events such as Scholar Prom and visits to the VMFA, I am hoping to work towards creating more informal events like study sessions and game nights.

I am most excited about making activities from previous years a tradition and adding new ones to help our community feel just like a family.

Selena Deng, '25
Wilmette, Illinois

I am excited about planning all our fun outings for this school year! With fall around the corner, I can’t wait to organize our next pumpkin carving session at the pumpkin patch. I just know that this is going to be our best year yet.

Anush Margaryan, '25

As a member of the Leadership Council, I am super excited to strengthen the bonds between different scholar cohorts by creating fun experiences for everyone!

Toby Tate, '26
Roanoke, Virginia

I am thrilled to provide more opportunities for our class to connect, in both casual chats and game nights in the Scholar Lounge, and with hopefully more formal trips to Virginia Beach or the VMFA! Aside from connecting more deeply with each other, I’m very passionate about fostering a creative problem-solving environment where scholars can discuss ideas about various issues such as on-campus social justice or off-campus music literacy technology, and work together as a cohort to promote these ideas and better our communities.

Denis Velazquez-Mondragon, '26
Bessemer, Alabama

I am super excited to be on the Leadership Council and plan really cool events for the scholars. I am also excited to get to know everyone more and advocate for their interests and plans!
